Lower ABV In the western Loire, Sauvignon sometimes struggles to ripen past its herbal, even bell-peppery, youth. In Cheverny, growers get their Sauvignon ripe AND get to add Chardonnay (15% here) for even more freshness and texture. As importer Kermit Lynch says, this is "frisky" with plenty of zesty citrus (lime, quince, Clementine) fruit plus a touch of ripe green apple and a sleek, mouthwatering, texture. Racy but not harsh, this is a terrific cocktail choice and all-around fun drinking with all kinds of shellfish, poultry and cheeses.
For You If: You enjoy the fruit-filled exurberance of New Zealand Sauvignon tempered with just a touch of Loire Valley restraint, style and minerality from the dollop of Chardonnay.
Not For You If: You like 'em really wild or really stony - this splits the difference in a very tasty way!
