Lower ABV Grolleau Noir is one of the Loire Valley's most widely planted grapes, but it mostly ends up in pink wine, especially Rosé d'Anjou. Here an excellent Saumur producer turns Grolleau into an utterly delicious, electrically colored, translucent red you'll struggle to resist. Big aromas and flavors of super-ripe strawberry, tart cherry and fresh berry leaf are delivered with lip-smacking acidity and just enough grip to work at table, too. Drink it as a lighter take on Beaujolais or a more robust rosé or just as a rare bottle full of joy.
For You If: You're looking for something light, fruity, refreshing and gulpable - this goes down almost too easily, especially with a light chill; you need red wine to match with spicy food - this is soft and soothing enough to do the trick nicely.
Not For You If: You're looking for lots of texture or grip - this is soft and easy.
