One of d’Angelo’s two “cru” – single vineyard – wines showcases Aglianico’s ability to be both powerful and delicate, assertive and restrained. A year in large cask followed by 6 months in tonneau tames the grape’s signature grip just enough. As Wine Spectator says in the 91 point review, “A fragrant and enticing overtone of mountain herbs, graphite, cocoa powder and woodsy spices leads the way for this muscular red, an aromatic thread winding through blackberry paste, dehydrated black cherry, leather and tarry mineral flavors. Fresh and tightly meshed, with dense tannins firming the finish.”
For You If: You’re looking for a big, powerful, gripping, red with plenty of rich red fruit and dusky, earthy, complexity; you’re after a terrific pairing for roast or grilled lamb!
Not For You If: You’re after something “easy” or “smooth” – this is a powerhouse with lots of intense grip and grab.
