Natural winemaker Chris Brockway and importer Tim Elenteny created Brea to bring low-intervention winemaking to traditional Cabernet grapes, making something authentic (but not weird!). They crush it with this Cabernet from a site in Paso most consider too cool for Cab. You’ll find deep, dense, aromas and current/blackberry flavors with a generous dollop of chocolate and firm, ready for steak, tannins. Impressive at this price.
For You If: You enjoy the density and chocolaty richness of California Cabernet without excessive alcohol or oak – this is done all in neutral French oak.
Not For You If: You’re looking for a big dose of oak with your Cabernet fruit or something that feels thick/heavy – this has plenty of body and spice, but is more restrained than many Paso Cabs.
