"Eruption" is both the wine name and a warning of what to expect - because this bold, rich, blend of Malbec, Syrah, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah truly "erupts" with flavor! As the winery writes of the Volcano Ridge Vyd, "It only makes sense that a ridge created by something as intense as a volcanic eruption (or, rather, hundreds of eruptions) should create grapes of intense richness and complexity." Just as important is the way High Valley AVA opens on its western end to California's Clear Lake. Daily winds building off the lake keep the grapes healthy and dry and drive day/night temperature swings of up to 50 degrees in summer. And that means that this intense fruit gets fully ripe while retaining the acidity and structure needed to stay balanced and truly food friendly.
The Wine Enthusiast 93 point praise gives you a great idea of what to expect: "This wine is concentrated, with aromas of brambled blackberry, black currant confiture, violet, dried herbs and molasses. The flavors open to ripe black plum, black cherry cream soda and sarsaparilla, wrapped around bay leaf, grilled orange slices, mineral and a dry, long finish. Decant for 30 minutes and enjoy with grilled rib eye." Big, bold, fun.
For You If: You like the power and fruit of something like Zinfandel and want that with a slightly different, juicier, fruit profile; you're looking for a bold burger red - this checks that box nicely!
