Benito Santos helped create the Rias Baixas DO in the 1980s, and the winery's Albarinio are certainly classic. This Godello from nearby Monterrei is a beauty, too. The aromas and flavors of pear drops, crisp apple and powdered seashells are compelling, as is the finish of ripe pear dusted with lime zest and a bit of salt. But it's the texture that really shines, kind of like unfiltered pear juice, at once fresh and very satisfyingly rich. Certainly great with all kinds of seafood and salty snacks and just plain delicious to drink, too.
