Lower ABV No one is sure how this native grape from eastern France’s Jura region reached the USA, but it was once widely planted (if equally widely mis-identified) across California. Today the sole source for Trousseau Gris wine grapes is the 10 acre Fanucchi Wood Road Vineyard in Sonoma’s Russian River. Winemakers Mark Porembski and Jennifer Williams give it a cool fermentation in steel (70%) and neutral oak (30% barrels and then bottle it just 4 months later to capture all of its freshness and vivid acids.
It’s a crazy cool wine to sip by itself, with salads, fish, or even Asian foods. Jeb Dunnuck's 91 point review of the 2022 gives you a great idea of what to expect: "bright and racy, with a lively nose of citrus blossom, mint, and some savory, dried herb-like nuances. One of those wines that makes you salivate, it's medium-bodied, has a supple, juicy mouthfeel, and a clean finish. As with everything from this producer, it's impeccably made and undeniably delicious."
For You If: You're looking for a fleshy-feeling - but not heavy - white with lots of lemon/apricot fruit and a zippy-fresh finish for seafood, salads or solo-sipping.
Not For You If: You're after a white that feels rich/thick - this is light, lively and mouthwatering.
