Organic/Bio The Cotes du Rhone village of Visan always gives wines with an inky element, accentuated more here by Grenache playing a supporting role to Syrah and Mouvedre. As Suckling says in the 90 point write-up, “Fruity and velvety, this blend of syrah, grenache and mourvedre showcases currants, wild herbs and baking spices on the nose, leading to a medium body with fine, firm tannins. Chalky with dense fruit and a delicious finish.” A shapely wine with enough structure for cellar or food but still fun to just drink.
For You If: You like your rich reds to be black-fruited – think black cherry, raspberry and currant – with tannins present but not grabby or hard.
Not For You If: You’re looking for a classic red-fruited and Grenache-based Rhone red – Visan leans away from that anyway and here black-fruited Syrah and Mourvedre are the stars.
