One of the more impressively delicious California Chardonnays we've had recently, showing how putting perfectly ripe, low-yield, fruit into barrel (28% new) can yield a wine that's creamy, deep, mineral and not really "oaky" at all. Wine Spectator's 93 point rave captures it well: "Juicy and precise, offering ginger, Honeysuckle and lemon blossom notes. Accents of fresh-cut apple, lemon meringue, salted butter shortbread cookie and warm spices linger on the crisp, fresh finish." A great roasted poultry, lobster/shellfish and buttered mushroom match and also pretty darn delicious to just drink.
For You If: You love the ripe fruit California's Russian River Valley delivers in a concentrated, lightly spiced and very mineral/pure form.
Not For You If: You're after super-big/buttery/oaky Chardonnay - this has a bit of butter and a bit of oak, but it's subtle and completely integrated with the spiced fruit and mineral notes.
