Paul creates this wine to showcase the terroir of the 1er Cru vineyards of Vertus. Wines from here can bring forward more fruit and body than in some parts of the Cote de Blancs, and that’s certainly the case here in a generous wine that smell a bit like a gingery apple pie. It will probably calm down a bit over the next couple of years, but it’s awfully fun now as a generous treat to enjoy with nibbles or on its own.
One of my favorite wine writes, Tamlyn Currin of JancisRobinson.com, describes this nicely: “Packed with yummy, juicy citrus. Melon and even a touch of passion fruit. Very ripe, but in all the good ways. Fills the mouth like a star, points and lines in every direction, sparkling edges but lively and fun with a dusting of crushed white stone.”
For You If: You're looking for genours Champagne with noticable fruit and a dusty, mineral, finish to enjoy solo or with lighter fare.
Not For You If: You're looking for "serious" Champagne - this is all about the party and fun!
