Organic/Bio From 70+ year-old vines growing next to the Grand Cru of Valmur, this is always a terrific Chablis value. In 2023, it opens with petty aromatics of green and yellow apple, Anjou pear and crushed seashells. Classic Chablis mouthfeel – lithe and pure with a salty edge to the lemon and green pear fruit. With a little air, lime and chalk flavors intensify on the very pure, stony, finish. This is delicious right now and poised to gain minerally depth over the next 5+ years.
As Burghound says in the 87-90 point pre-bottling review, "A subtle whiff of wood influence easily allows the cool, airy and pretty aromas of shellfish and just sliced citrus to be appreciated. There is both slightly better vibrancy and mid-palate density (vs the village Chablis) to the delicious middle weight flavors that also exude a discreet minerality on the youthfully austere, dry and sneaky long finish."
For You If: You want something very close to 1er Cru concentration and class at village Chablis prices; you're after Chablis that will shine with shellfish and also give lots of joy sipped solo.
Not For You If: You just want a glass of Chardonnay - this is that, but in a very Chablis style.
