In the deep south of Languedoc, growers discovered that flooding their vineyards for 40 days in spring could kill the phylloxera louse, and that's how Ferrandiere still farms it's own-rooted vines just 12 miles from Carcassonne. Old-school farming and modern, all steel, winemaking brings us the darkly colored and fruited Malbec. Black plum currant and cherry fruit pick up a dusting of clove and nutmeg spice before fine tannins carry the fruit through a long, supple, finish. A great party or cookout red that can even take a light chill if you like, priced to share.
For You If: You enjoy black-fruited, gutsy, reds that stay fresh and easy without any oaky spice or grip.
Not For You If: You're looking for lush, plush or velvety - this is soft enough for sipping in a more classic bistro-style red weight.
