West of Montalcino, Monteccuco balances inland Tuscany warmth with altitudes of more than 1,000 feet. That balance of sunny ripeness with freshness shows nicely here in this blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Ciliegiolo and 15% Montepulciano done in steel and cask. Generous dark strawberry and red plum fruit gets wrapped in some bitter chocolate and lifted by a satisfyingly raspy finish. Great burger and pizza wine!
For You If: You enjoy the flavors of Tuscan reds with a bit of the chocolate/lavender character Montepulciano brings to the party; you’re after a satisfying all-purpose red to enjoy with or without food.
Not For You If: You’re looking for something super rich and dense or very light and smooth – this has good medium-bodied intensity and a fine, lightly grippy, finish.
