Lower ABV No, we’d never heard of Pelaverga either. It’s an old grape from the Barolo region that today is still hanging on here and there in the hills to the north. Gian Luca Colombo makes this alongside his Barolo with an early pick, short maceration, and aging six months in clay amphora. It’s sharp and mouthwatering with surprising depth to the red fruit and loads of herby, peppery, complexity. Bright, fun and kind of sophisticated.
For You If: You’re looking for a wine to pair with grilled or roasted chicken with lots of herbs black pepper or just some salami and cheese; you enjoy light, red-fruited, wines where there’s more than just fruit going on.
Not For You If: You’re after something soft – this is satisfyingly sharp – or substantial – at 12.5%, this drinks light in feel while packing a big flavor punch.
