As the winery writes, "Andrew Murray has been singularly and nearly maniacally focused on crafting Syrah for 25 years." His "Everyday" (in French Syrah “Tous les Jours”) Syrah from Santa Ynez gives you a good idea of how well he's succeeding! It's 100% destemmed and aged 9 months in used French oak to round the tannins and let the ripe, dark, fruit shine through.
The 2023 edition is even better than usual - pretty breathtaking, actually! As Vinous says in the 93 point rave, it's "once again an unbelievable value that packs in a ridiculous amount of character and fruit density. Blackberry, mocha, black cherry, graphite and sweet pipe tobacco flesh out in the glass. The 2023 is a mouth-coating, perfectly balanced wine that's loaded with juicy freshness and so much nuance. Just mind-bendingly good for the price."
For You If: You love the blend of ripe black fruit and savory earth/meat aromas and flavors California Syrah does so well; you’re looking for a wine that will roll from garden party to cookout with aplomb.
Not For You If: You’re after a full-throttle, Shiraz-styled, Syrah or something from the Northern Rhone – this is in between.
