A fun, flavorful, and fine value Tuscan Sangiovese made by winemaker Paolo Masi at Tuscany’s Renzo Masi winery from grapes grown near Florence and Chianti Ruffina. The Masi family’s Fattoria di Basciano has been hailed by Wine Advocate as “one of the rising stars of Rufina,” and their Renzo Masi project was designed to use friends’ and neighbors’ grapes to make “wines with vibrant territorial personality." This special project by the Masi’s for importer Bob Shack does that in spades and at a fantastic value price to boot!
The aromas feature rich and deep black cherry, dark raspberry, and hints of fresh violets and warm earth. On the palate there’s lots of ripe raspberry and dark cherry fruit with notions of leather and flowers showing nicely before a squirt of fresh acidity and whip of lightly chewy tannins show up to give support. There's enough going on here to hold your interest through a few glasses and - especially at this price - tempt you to open a second bottle as the night goes on. Fun stuff and fantastic value.
"Aromas of black fruit and red licorice with dried flowers. There’s bright mineral character on the medium palate. Some chocolate, too. Well balanced, clean and refreshing. Drink now. Screw cap."
