Organic/Bio Lower ABV Saint-Porcain is smack in the middle of France near the famed oak forests of Allier. Denis Barbara has led the charge to make it better known for wine than barrels, working to super-low yields, making clean but still minimal intervention wines, and finishing with some of our favorite wine labels in the world.
This is his Chardonnay (70%) and Tressalier blend from the lieu-dit Vin D'Alon, a site of some fame when Henri IV regularly drank Saint Porcain in Paris. Tangy peach and apricot, lemon rind, red plum (the part near the bit) fruit are lifted by stony minerally squeeze of lemon juice. Finishes very, very, long - take a sip, wait a minute, and then check-in with your mouth. The wine is still there, dancing and delighting. This will be great with cream sauces, mushrooms, fish done with lemon, whatever.
