Lower ABV The very sunny Mont de Milieu 1er Cru on the Right Bank (not far from the Grand Crus) gives wines of solid ripeness but that always hold their salty stone minerality as well. In 2020, Angèle Barat got all of that character into her bottling, a wine that opens with loads of crushed seashell, chalk and just-right sweet fruit. The flavors are a bit more restrained at first, but come roaring up with air to show white stone fruit, lime skin and seashell flavors. Plenty of grip gives this excellent cellar potential, but no need to wait to enjoy it with everything from mussels and oysters to sweet crab and lobster. Impressive.

“A slightly more elegant nose is comprised by ever-so-vaguely exotic notes of white peach, petrol, quinine and cool tidal pool. There is excellent density to the more powerful yet finer medium-bodied flavors that exude evident minerality on the balanced, moderately austere and beautifully long finale. This possesses very good development potential and a wine that should easily repay up to a decade of cellaring.”
