Always a favorite in Ken’s cellar, the Freedom Hills Pinot comes from a tiny slice (2.85 acres) of this well-respected vineyard lying between Eola Hills to the east and the Coastal Range to the west. A tad warmer than vineyards in either neighboring region, but also possessed of unusually bright acidity. Ken’s parcels were replanted about 10 years ago after phylloxera reached Freedom Hill, and now they give wine with a wonderful blend of richness and structure, accessibility and ability to age. Expect lots of spice, chocolate, and herb notes to add complexity to the dark raspberry and plum.

"Freedom Hill has firmly established itself as one of the top vineyards in Willamette Valley. This wine only burnishes its reputation. The aromas bring notes of cinnamon, spice box, black-tea leaves and dark cherry, still locked up but immediately enticing. The flavors are fresh and intense, with vibrancy and power, but also delicacy and layering. A hyperextended finish sails off into the distance. It's outrageous. Best after 2027, with a long life beyond that."
