Organic/Bio Lower ABV "Terroir du Domaine" refers to the location of the vines that dominate this cuvee - essentially surrounding the winery. Pierre Seguin planted this 1.8 acres of vines around 1950 and his family has farmed it gently and with care ever since. After manual harvest, sorting, and a gentle two-week fermentation the wine ages around 12 months in barrel. Usually this wine sees only third and fourth-use barrels, but the harvest was so small that some second year casks were used for the 2021.
This is lovely Gevrey and if it reflects a lighter vintage in color and density, there's certainly no lack of lovely Gevrey character. On opening the aromas are positive and savory with smoke, forest floor and iron scents framing the ripe red berry fruit. The wine flows beautifully and even a little delicately across your palate with lovely sweet red cherry, raspberry and red currant fruit underlayed by sweet spice and iron. The tannins and fine and firm enough to showcase the ripe fruit and spice flavors and keep things sustained through a fresh finish that picks up a lift of pomegranate with air. Delicious with even a short decant now already and delightful for 7 or so years to come.
