Organic/Bio Grazing-based viticulture seems to unlock the wild side in Willamette Valley grapes. Like with the westernmost 24 rows of Stephen Hagen’s Pinot Gris, which starting in 2010 started giving berries in a wild range of colors including deep red. So this takes that fruit, leaves it on the skins for a bit, and captures a peachy hue along with stone fruit, citrus, hibiscus and rose hip aromas and flavors. Complex, rich and captivating.
For You If: You’re after a wine that smells, tastes, AND looks great at table; you enjoy red wine body with white wine florals and fruit character; you’re after a terrific match for simply prepared salmon.
Not For You If: You’re looking for a typical “rosé” – this has a touch of pink/orange color, but nothing else in common with something from Provence.
