Organic/Bio A very different take on Willamette Valley Pinot Gris even beyond the depth, richness and character imparted by Stephen Hagen’s very different grazing-based viticulture. Here the wine spends 40 days on the skins during and after fermentation before aging in old French oak. The skin contact provides extra texture (tannin) and savory wild garrigue notes to go with complex fruit flavors of red berry, green melon and more.
For You If: You enjoy “textural” whites, meaning wines with extra body and mouthfeel from time spent in contact with the skins; you’re looking for a white that both refreshes and fascinates; you’re after a white wine to pair with meat – this will stand up nicely!
Not For You If: You like your whites fruity, easy and direct – this has lots to say and says it at length, so it’s neither “direct” or overtly “fruity.”
