In baking hot Calabria, the native Gaglioppo grape can be made into a powerful, dark, and rustic red. Or, as here, treated gently to make a brilliantly refreshing wine that serves up gushing tangy fruit and finishes with refreshing, mouth-gripping, tannins.  Drink it a bit cool with pizza, salami, whatever. VERY highly recommended!

"Slightly bloody (iron? rust?) and sharp sour-cherry jam aromas. Masses of well-directed acidity, an underlying sautéed-mushroom earthiness and umami, and then this blood-rust-cranberry-sharp-jam mille-feuille of flavour sandwiched between whippet-thin tannins. So sharp you keep watching your ankles in case it bites you. But this is a wine with a wickedly wry grin and it will positively zumba down the table with a bacon buttie. Hangover cure?"
