100% Nebbiolo – the great, majestic, grape of Italy’s Piemonte region – from the Barolo commune of Serralunga d’Alba. With its old Serravallian (what we used to call Helvetian) soils of sandstone and sand, Serralunga Barolo is often among the region’s most powerful, intense, and needful of years of cellaring to soften what can be fierce tannins. You’ll find that power here, but also a sense of elegance and accessibility from a shorter fermentation (around 2 weeks) and aging for 30 months in large casks with frequent rackings to give the wine the air needed to soften tannins to perfection.
"The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is an accessible and open-knit expression that builds in intensity as the wine spends additional time in the glass. Dark fruit and plum transition to potting soil and iris root. The wine shows structure and strength, but its power is well managed throughout. Drink 2024-2038"
"Sweet, ripe strawberries on the nose with some nice, leafy and nutty undertones. Medium-bodied with fine, already quite well-integrated tannins and a tight finish. Drinkable now, but better after another year in bottle. (Jan 2022)"
"The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a very pretty, aromatic mid-weight wine that offers good depth for the year and fine balance to match. Macerated cherry, spice, rose petal and anise lead into the nuanced, perfumed finish. This is a gorgeous Serralunga Barolo that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Drink 2022 - 2031"
