This small Chehalem Mountains producer is turning out terrific Pinot Noir while remaining just far enough under the critics’ radar that they remain excellent value. From the warm 2018 vintage, this is mostly Yamhill-Carlton fruit from a blend of clones, picked ripe and fresh (13.5% alcohol), fully destemmed and aged 18 months in mostly neutral oak. Plenty of perfume and flavor here highlighted by notes of ripe cherry, red raspberry, fresh and dried flowers and a nice sprinkle of cracked pepper and spice. Plenty of supporting structure but feels smooth and silky on the bright, mouthwatering, finish. An outstanding bargain in all-purpose Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.
"Vibrant and generous, with floral cherry and cranberry flavors that zip along to a crisp, fresh finish. Drink now through 2027."
"Sharp and spicy, this has a generous mix of brambly berry, forest floor and peppery spice. It's showing a lightly chewy, tannic foundation and some gentle hints of chocolate trailing on the finish. It's balanced and enjoyable, and represents a good value in a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from an excellent vintage."
