Organic/Bio We'll be drinking lots of this in my house for the next few years; it's the kind of red that handles rich dishes and lighter fare with equal aplomb. And there is no better value than this in benchmark, world-class, red at our special sale prices! The fruit is from several old-vine sites around Bierzo, field blend vineyards that are mostly Mencia (about 80%) plus Alicante Bouschet, Palomino and Bastardo. About 80% whole clusters gives extra spice and grip, long maceration adds complexity and depth, and aging in various sized casks for as long as Perez thinks each should stay there rounds things off nicely.
"The nose of the 2019 Ultreia Saint Jacques is nothing short of spectacular. It shows the varietal character and the juicy and round style of the Valtuille vineyards. It's harmonious, clean and expressive. They are using more and more stems with long macerations, malolactic in tanks and aging in 30% oak vats (he purchased from Alión) and 70% of the wine in used 225-liter oak barrels for one year."
