Organic/Bio Pinot Blanc is the unsung member of the Pinot family, but that just means it offers exceptional value. Like it’s Burgundy colleague, Chardonnay, grown in the right places, Pinot Blanc has generous body, ripe orchard fruit flavors, and a very friendly affinity for barrel fermentation and aging. It naturally serves up a touch of spice, hazelnut and smoke (accentuated by careful use of oak), with just a touch more acidity and freshness than Chardonnay often offers.

One taste of this and you’ll know Christina Netzl’s Ried Altenberg vineyard in Austria is clearly one of the “right places” to grow Pinot Blanc! There’s a touch of white Burgundy character to the scents of orchard fruit, hazelnuts and oak spice that pull you in nicely. On the palate, the 2021 is youthful and all about the ying-yang interplay of textural richness and zippy, enlivening, acidity.  The flavors are wonderfully ripe – juicy pear and yellow apple – with layers of sweet spice, hazelnut, and fresh cream flavors that coat your mouth nicely. Then a burst of limey acidity drives the flavors through a long, mouthwatering, finish of ripe fruit and salty, lightly herbal, complexity. Delicious now and will shine with everything from rich seafood (lobster, scallops) to Pad Thai or anything finished with a lick of nutty tahini sauce. And improving for a decade at least.
