The 2020 McPrice Myers High on the Hog Red Paso Robles is a full-throttled, no holds barred, really tasty celebration of ripe fruit, a touch of oak, and terrific, crowd-pleasing, drinkability. It's an American Rhone-style blend of 48% Grenache 26% Petite Sirah 7% Syrah 7% Zinfandel 5% Mourvedre 5% Malbec and 2% Lagrein that has the size to satisfy Zin and Petite Sirah fans and the power to delight most Paso Cab drinkers. Twenty months in large and small French oak adds a touch of class. The 32% off case price delivers a big wallop of welcome holiday savings.
While Grenache is the lead grape in quantity, it’s the Petite Sirah that’s most obvious, from the big blue/black/purple fruit, lavender and chocolate aromas and flavors to the finely dusty tannins on back. The Grenache shows in slick of red berry fruit, the Syrah adds something meaty/savory, and the Zin gives the wine a juicy, brambly, feel. The other grapes mainly lend freshness to a wine that’s both big and super easy to drink. A great family dinner and loud party red that will leave you watching everyone having a blast and, like winemaker McPrice Myers’ grandmother, exclaiming, “We are really living high on the hog, aren’t we?”
"Editors' Choice! The nose offers inky iodine, cassis, beef and oak aromas, while the palate lands with satisfying richness, showing milk chocolate and more cassis flavors."
