Natural   Ben Jordan is known to most for his work at Early Mountain but natural wine fans can’t get enough of his Lightwell Survey wines!  As they say, “Lightwell Survey Wines produces small batches of lively reds, dense whites and unique combinations of the two. We aim for a bullseye yet prefer to land slightly off center.”

Here they more or less co-ferment Shenandoah Valley Cabernet Franc (83%) and Petit Manseng (17%) with native yeasts and age it in old oak with no sulfur. It’s wildly vibrant and juicy, with the Manseng giving a nervy feel to the crunchy currant/cherry Cab Franc fruit and dark chocolate and herb accents. The color – and perhaps flavors? – recall the oldest style of “claret” Bordeaux. Pretty thrilling burger companion.
