Perhaps our favorite dry Riesling in the shop today from Austria's greatest Riesling site: a stony basalt ridge first called "Hellenstein" ("hell stone") because of its rocky soil and the way the sun "burns like hell" during the summer. The combination produces truly profound Riesling. Terrific purity and drive to the lime and cracked slate aromas and flavors that finish very long and very intense. Great stuff.
"Very bright citrus and yellow-apple aromas give this juicy and very well-balanced dry riesling a lot of appeal. The first impression is of sleekness, but there’s plenty of ripeness here. Long, polished finish."
"This is delicate, yet extremely expressive. Initially, lively apple and honeysuckle do the introduction, while Korean pear, kumquat and cardamom take the main stage, while bracing acidity links it all, providing a firm backbone. This is well-crafted, with precision, from start to elegant finish. Drink through 2032."
