Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso, a big 17.5/20 points from JancisRobinson.com, and not one but TWO 93 point ratings from different tastings at Decanter. While the US-based critics haven’t caught on yet, this is on heck of a Chianti Classico! Diego Finocchi purchased this small, 12 acre, vineyard in 2006 at age 24, before he’d even finished his final exams at winemaking school.  The vines were older than he was – planted in 1967 – and were already naturally low-yielding on their poor clay and sand soils and 430 meter elevation. And they dropped further as he revitalized the vineyard by converting to 100% organic farming, certified since 2015. We’ve appreciated every vintage we’ve tasted, but the 2019 takes things to new heights. A remarkably good wine.

Two tastings, same results!

"Erta di Radda’s owner and winemaker, Diego Finocchi includes a dollop of Canaiolo Nero in his annata to enhance floral and spice aromas as well as balance Sangiovese’s racy acidity. A blend of three different plots, each is a co-fermentation. The 2019 is a heady mix of fennel, sage blossom, liquorice, juniper and forest underbrush. It expands across the palate with volume and energy, though it's really just midweight. The tannins are light and polished, and it finishes with cinnamon-tinged berries. March 2022"

"Of all the subzones, Radda, in my opinion, is the most stylistically cohesive. There is a purity, lift and nervous tension to the Sangiovese grown here that, I believe, makes it possible to spot even in a blind tasting. Like looking at a map of the body where all the veins are depicted without the distraction of the muscle, there is a coursing, driving energy to this wine, full of youthful exuberance with finely grained, supple tannins and ripe red cherry and cranberry fruit aromas and flavours. Clean and fresh finish. October 2021"

JancisRobinson.com: 17.5 Points

"Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Sweet intense raspberry fruit nose with a clear earthy, minerally note and just a touch of oak. Plush cherry fruit with a layer of fine chewy tannins that last. An overachiever of a wine."
