Like the 5 Year Doce Generoso, this is a superb introduction to Madeira, only this time to the joys of longer-aged wines. The grape here is Malavsia, known as Malmsey in the 18th century when Madeira was America’s favorite wine (it certainly helped lubricate both the Continental Congress’s and Constitutional Convention’s work before and after the Revolutionary War!).

Although labeled 15 Years Old, it actually includes barrels even older than that, all from vines farmed by the winery.  Full-bodied, opulent and rich, it's bursting with flavors of caramelized walnuts, fig, toffee, orange marmalade, quince and spice cake, all perfectly balanced by sharp, reviving, acids. It's hard not to keep drinking, but if you don't finish the bottle, no worries. Just put the cork back in and leave it on the counter. At room temperature, it will keep for years (really!) even after opening.
