As Jean-Michel likes to say, “You have to work to make Grand Cru wine in Vougeot,” and you’ll see the benefits of his hard work in this glorious bottle. More power and muscle here than usually found in Vougeot, but still all the silkiness and finesse. From a tiny, two-fifths of an acre, parcel and 40 year old vines, fermented in a small new oak tank and then aged in 48-month air dried French oak barrels.
There’s a “sauvage” element here – a touch of wildness – to the dark berry fruit and accents of smoke, earth, and spice aromas and flavors. A big wine that retains impressive focus, energy and purity and finishes with lingering fruit, spice, and earth flavors over refined (if significant) tannins. The rare Vougeot that's 100% worth the investment.
