John Grochau’s easy-drinking Pinot Noir Commuter Cuvee always gives us an unadulterated picture of the Willamette Valley vintage, here showcasing 2021’s lovely mixture of ripe fruit and fresh, light, texture. His hands-off approach to winemaking (“Don’t screw it up” is his motto) and light use of new oak lets classic Pinot cherry fruit and accents of cranberry, fresh earth, flower petal, and spice shine through clear as a bell. The fruit really resonates through the long, supple, finish with just enough tannin to support pairing with food in addition to sipping solo. Good wine and really good value.
