Organic/Bio Lower ABV Winemaker Erin Nucio started his wine exploration here in the DC area before taking a winding path towards working with Rus Raney at Evesham Wood. While making wine with Russ, he launched his own Haden Fig label - and then unexpectedly had Russ offer him the keys to Evesham Wood. And the famed Puits Sec vineyard that rolls down the hill from the winery.
Like Rus, Erin picks this site early, and in 2021 the combination of early-pick freshness and the vintage’s generous fruit is utterly compelling. The volcanic soils of the east-facing slopes of the Eola Hills shows here in a smoky, dusky, earth tone that perfectly complements wonderfully ripe and rich dark red fruit. The aromas and flavors keep expanding with air, becoming fully mouthfiling even as the wine stays light and finessed. Too good to resist now but do hold some to enjoy over the next 10-15 years.
