Organic/Bio One of the best values in high-end Cotes du Rhone we've tasted in a while comes from the tiny (10HA of vines) village of Saint-Maurice in the northwest of the Southern Rhone. The pre-Alpine slopes here are cool enough to make Syrah vs Grenache the star, and aging in a mixture of concrete and large cask lets the star really shine through. Serving up oodles of dark black fruit and lavender-laced garrigue, this feels rich while staying highly drinkable and fresh. Good stuff.

"This has quite high acidity for the appellation, but also impressive depth and a stack of fine tannins. As it flows over the palate the fresh rosemary and thyme character expands and the stony minerality becomes more apparent. Excellent aging potential."
