Organic/Bio Lower ABV A tad more restrained on the nose than the Fourneaux, but ultimately shows really attractive aromas of chalk, orange peel, bitter lemon and cut apple. On the palate you can tell that Mont de Milleu is a warm vineyard, but you certainly never forget it's "warm" for Chablis! There's a gentleness and generousity here to the lemon, lime, apple fruit and then building crushed stone and seashell minerality as the finish turns more firm and salty/stony. This is really satisfying and could even be enjoyed without food as a very classy cocktail white.
NOTE: to manage Virginia regulatory issues, these bottles carry the winery's "extra" label, Maison Jaine, normally used for private label wines in France. Same wine from the same bottling and bin, just with a different label for VA.
"The 2018 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru, which comes from 45-year-old vines and sees 8–15 months in stainless steel vats, offers undergrowth and grass clippings on the nose, which is one of the better ones from this domaine in this vintage. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity. A gentle Mont de Milieu that might lack a little tension, but has an attractive spicy finish that feels well defined."
"Here too there is a whiff of the exotic to the petrol, iodine and yellow orchard fruit aromas. The generous, even opulent, flavors possess good mid-palate richness that still manage to retain reasonably good focus on the lightly stony if less complex and ever-so-mildly warm finish. This may well develop better depth over time though at present it seems a bit less promising than the best in the range."
