Fronsac on the Right Bank always gives Merlot-dominant wines that have a touch of Left Bank feel. Here around 25% Cabernet Franc elevates the perfume nicely. Owner/winemaker Thierry Gaudrie never pushes ripeness or extraction to extremes, giving the 2016 Villars a lovely balance of juicy berry/currant fruit and fine freshness and grip. Stylish and very appetizing.
