Organic/Bio As Wine Advocate noted a few years ago, “Tolaini is on a tear, making some of the best wines representing the warmer Castelnuovo Berardenga subzone of Chianti Classico.” And when Wine Spectator’s Bruce Sanderson visited Tolaini in 2016, he immediately named it “An estate to watch.” And Gambero Rosso – Italy’s most important wine guide – says, “Passionate attention to the Bordeaux-style vineyards, and a very natural approach to the cellar benefitting from international consultants, make Pierluigi Tolaini's estate one of the most important in the Chianti Classico area.” And you say, “Great wine, great value!” Which is why we sell more cases of wine from Tolaini each year than from any other Italian estate.
We’ve always admired Tolaini’s Valdisanti blend for the way it matched Cabernet richness with a 20% dose of firm, austere, juicy Sangiovese. But it turns out we just didn’t know how good it could be when it was 100% Cabernet – 50/50 Sauvignon and Franc. Now, for the second year in a row, we do! This rich, deep, powerful “super-Tuscan” blend will be best from 2024-2034, but don’t be afraid to decant for an hour or two and enjoy with beef, lamb, or earthy vegetarian dishes now. Marvelous stuff.
“Pretty aromas and flavors of currants, asphalt and bark fill the glass. It’s medium-to full-bodied with creamy tannins and a long, flavorful finish.”
