One of Martin Mittelbach's flagship bottlings, this was almost too intense to enjoy on first release. Now that a few years have passed, it's unfurled beautifully to delivery layers of ripe fruit flavor balanced perfectly by the minerality and cut. Impressive.

"From 66-year-old vines planted on the gneiss and quartzite soils in the steep Dürnstein cru, the 2017 Ried Höhereck Grüner Veltliner Smaragd displays an intense, fine and elegant nose with delicate citric and flinty-mineral notes. Very fine and elegant on the palate, with intense and well-concentrated fruit and lots of body, this is a rich and powerful but refined and well-balanced Smaragd with lingering piquant minerality."
