Ken Wright has owned Canary Hill Vyd in the Eola Hills since 2006 and keeps almost all of it for himself. In 2019 and 2021, though, he allocated a little fruit to Kelley, just enough to make 151 cases of pure joy. It's a dark-fruited, structured, wine with real power, but still very pure and finessed and long at 13.0% alcohol. All of Kelley's block is Pommard Clone, and the blue fruit, chalk and crushed rock minerality, dusky tannins and sheer intensity is very much what Pommard does in the Eola Hills. As Vinous said of the 95 point 2019 edition, this already "finishes smooth and extremely long, with resonating spiciness and slowly mounting, polished, tannins." Best from 2026 and a decade more.
"Moving over to the Eola-Amity Hills, the 2021 Pinot Noir Canary Hill Vineyard is packed with energetic tension, opening to notes of crushed stone, ripe pomegranate, and rosemary. Focused, with balanced ripeness and even-keeled acidity, it’s seamless and long on the palate, with sweet tannins and a refined feel. It has fantastic energy, with delicate incense on the long finish, and will be an age-worthy wine to enjoy over the coming 10-12 years."
