The first vintage of this wine I ever tasted was the 2007, a difficult harvest where many Willamette Valley vineyards struggled to achieve ripeness and depth as slow ripening across a cool summer was disrupted by autumn rains. I don’t recall now if John and Linda Carter’s Dundee Hills vineyard – then just 5 years old – managed to get ripe before the rain, or whether they just took their hit from post-rain losses to rot and refused to pick until the fruit was ripe. Certainly winemaker Lynn Penner-Ash worked some magic in the cellar. And, certainly in 2011, at age four, their wine had plenty of depth, richness and sustain.
"Dried cherry and strawberry with flowers and spice throughout. Medium-bodied with a pretty center-palate and a savory, juicy finish. Hints of wood."
“This is the current release, now with four-plus years of bottle age. Fans of winemaker Lynn Penner-Ash will recognize her style. It's firm and compact, with a spine of iron and an ageworthy balance among the cherry fruit, supporting acidity and peppery tannin components. 2016 is an excellent vintage in the Willamette Valley, and this wine can be cellared almost indefinitely, but enjoyed immediately.”
