Lower ABV Since the 2001 vintage first appeared in the store years ago, Dragon Rosé has been a consistent customer and staff favorite year after year. The Lienard family tends about 50 acres of vines in Provence and makes this from Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, and Syrah. These grapes are grown specifically for rosé on the limestone terraces rising above the Côte d’Azur and are harvested at the perfect balance of fresh fruit and juicy acidity. Once in the winery, they are lightly crushed and allowed to pick up a just right touch of pink color and red berry flavor before pressing and finishing fermentation in cool stainless steel tanks.
The 2022 edition one of the best we’ve tasted in years, perfectly balancing the deep ripeness of recent years with a zesty, freshening, acidity and fully dry finish. Aromas and flavors of crushed raspberry and fresh strawberry gain complexity from a nice dash of Provencal herb, a dusting of orange zest, and a wisp of sweet spice. Starts tangy, broadens with nice richness, and then finishes crisp, refreshing, and dry with tart red berry and tangerine pith lingering. The interplay between rich ripeness and stony, dry, mouthwatering acidity is what we mean when we talk about “tension in wine.” But if you prefer “Stupid Delicious,” we’re ok with that, too. This is what the pink wines of Provence are all about!
