Lower ABV On first taste, my thoughts: "It's like Gamay and Cabernet Franc had a baby." Then, "Maybe more like Mencia and Carmenere?" Then, "What a fabulous bistro red!" Turns out all of those thoughts apply. This is wildly, crazy, delicious in a chill and relaxed style. The red cherry and black raspberry fruit are mid-summer ripe, with just enough tang to balance their juciness. The mouth feel is creamy but light - just 13.0% alcohol - with dried raspberry depth and snappy accents of powdered stone, black pepper and fresh green herb. The light tannins nicely set off a slab of paté or duck confit or plate of lentils and Merguez sausage, but certainly don't get in the way of just slurping this down because you're thirsty. A joyful, delicious, fun wine that's a great value, too.
