Organic/Bio Géraldine Laval is up to something special in the Languedoc, applying her experience at Olivier Leflaive and Jean-Louis Chave to craft deeply authentic and stunningly fresh wines from her small estate in Les Terrasses du Larzac. Like here in her "entry-level" blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Carignan from limestone soils and made all in concrete.
It smells like the Languedoc on a warm summer day, redolent of lavender, rosemary, wild thyme and warm, stony, soil. Blueberry, raspberry and blackberry fruit join the party on the palate, all showing classic ripe/tart balance, with the garrigue notes re-emerging on the long, finely tannic, finish. Plenty of flavor here, for sure, but also impeccable poise and a highly drinkable 13.5% alcohol (vs the 15%+ so common in the Sud these days). As Géraldine writes, “A suggestion for food and wine pairings? Petit Clos is appreciated on its own but do not hesitate to pair it with a tartare – beef carpaccio, veal or duck or just a good BBQ with friends!”
