Tony Bauer is best known here for his whites, but his red wine success (in the very white wine region of Wagram) is one key reason he was Austria's Winemaker of the Year in 2017. This is sort of an "Austrian Cotes du Rhone," a blend of Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Blaufrankisch and Merlot aged 18 months in large and small wood. It's plump and yummy, with dark cherry, plum and blackberry fruit delivered with good concentration and a nice accent of spicy oak. Finishes plenty of spiced dark plum and berry flavors lingering over soft tannins. Very versatile in terms of food pairing. Think beef, duck or anything you happen to pull off the grill.
