Lower ABV It’s HARD to make interesting, tasty, wine at this price point and the growers who own/operate Rioja’s Montebuena co-op do it as well as anyone we know. Here they’ve balanced the rich texture and ripe stone fruit and hint of bees wax Viura does so well by the addition of 20% snappy Tempranillo Blanco and use of steel vs oak. The contrast between the creamy texture and crisp acidic bite at the end is compelling with or without food.
For You If: You enjoy the round texture and slightly exotic fruit of white Cotes du Rhone with a bit more freshness; enjoy the weighty feeling of Chardonnay with different flavors; like a bit of bite in your whites.
Not For You If: You’re looking for oak flavors or a smooth, soft, finish; you want a lot of body – this isn’t light but is only 12.5% alcohol.
