A nicely ripe and rich single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the slopes below the Grand Cru hill of Corton. The warm, very dry, 2020 growing season helped the low-yielding Pinot Noir vines develop excellent ripeness and richness with thick skins providing the structural backbone needed to keep the wines in balance. Gentle fermentation of fully destemmed fruit kept fruit and tannins balanced and 15 months in around 15% new French oak delivered a supple, velvety, feel.
This is wonderfully aromatic already, with bold scents of incense, tobacco, wild herb and dark spiced cherry/berry fruit. On the palate, the fruit comes up first - ripe but crunchy black cherry - with flavors of violets, incense, spice and smoke for accent and an increasingly savory presentation on the back. Fine tannins give support without any feeling of drying or hardness and the fruit and savory flavors show excellent sustain through the generous finish. Delicious now and showing well for another decade or more.
