As Wine Advocate said nearly a decade ago, "Giampaolo Tabarrini continues to make some of the most compelling wines in Montefalco. Today’s wines are more finessed and refined than they have ever been, but Tabarrini is a young man, so it seems quite likely the best may still lie ahead." And as Vinous raved last year, ""What really sets this estate apart is the importance that Giampaolo Tabarrini places on terroir, focusing on distinct parcels within their holdings that create unique expressions. These are big, strapping wines, but their balance is remarkable, making them a sure bet for extended cellaring."
This is one of Tabarrini's softer Sagrantino, but still gives plenty of the classic dark red fruit, black olive, licorice and spice flavors that are the grape's signature along with masses of super-fine tannins for grip and support on the back. Drinking well now and over the next half-dozen years, this is a terrific introduction into Umbria's most distinctive red grape.
