When Jim offered us a little of this for his visit, he anticipated a little pushback from his winery team. "No one is going to be happy that I am suggesting we let some cases go free range. I might be dead by the time you read this email." Fortunately, Melissa just sighed and let it go, so we got both Jim and the wine!
From what are probably the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines in the Valley and fermented and aged in 2-4 year-old Acacia barrels, this is Sauvignon of outstanding texture as well as exuberant flavor. Can't beat Jim's note: " denser, richer more stately version of Sauvignon Blanc than one would generally find in the universe of this grape. The 2024 version has a unique tension to it between its tropical lime-infused papaya notes and the crystalline minerality that is on display at a level we have never experienced before. As is always the case, it is at once very high in acidity but rich in texture which adds to the complexity of the fruit/minerality interplay in the wine and makes the wine profound even at a young age."
For You If: You want the kind of minerality you're hoping for in Sancerre with a touch more exuberant fruit and perfume.
Not For You If: Well, we guess if you don't like Sauvignon Blanc, you won't like this! Unless you need a lawnmower bag full of grass cuttings in your wine, all Sauvignon fans should grab this while you can.
